BIRKAN – Over 100 years of innovation and quality in the printing industry

Since its foundation in 1924, BIRKAN has developed into one of the leading suppliers of printing blankets, varnish plates and laser-engraved elastomeric printing plates. Founded by Alois Kandlbinder and Ferdinand Birkner as Birkner & Kandlbinder oHG in Munich, the company laid the foundations for its success with the patented ‘Triumph’ rubber printing blanket. This innovation significantly simplified the printing process and quickly brought BIRKAN to international prominence.

In the 1930s, the ‘Triumph’ printing blanket became firmly established in the industry. Despite the challenges of the war years, the company survived and was successfully run by Maria Kandlbinder after the war. This phase of reconstruction and growth paved the way for modernisation.

In the 1960s, her nephew Ludwig Marchner took over the management and introduced numerous innovations, including the ‘Birkan System’ and the construction of a new company building. These advances strengthened BIRKAN’s position in the market and enabled further growth.

Since 1998, the company has been run by the third and fourth generations of the family. Based in Eching on Lake Ammersee, BIRKAN now exports its high-quality products to around 80 countries worldwide. A dedicated team of around 30 employees ensures excellent service, precise manufacturing and the highest quality.

Today, BIRKAN stands for the perfect combination of tradition and technological innovation. Using state-of-the-art production processes and strategic partnerships with international manufacturers, we meet our customers’ high standards and set the benchmark in the printing industry.
